Goat Revolution in Désertines: Goats Shake Up the Quiet Village!

In the heart of Désertines, a peaceful town in Allier, the daily rhythm is changing. Free-range goats are causing chaos and dividing residents.

In this small Auvergne village of 500 souls, tranquility is sacred. However, ever since Father Jules decided to let his goats roam freely for their well-being, the much-appreciated calm has given way to real pandemonium. Indeed, the goats do not just graze in the meadow, but also invite themselves into gardens, courtyards, and even the village streets.

“It’s unheard of! They climb on cars, eat flowers from planters, and even vegetables from gardens. One even got into the school!” exclaims Jeanne, 75, a resident of the town since birth. For her, it’s clear, “Father Jules is crossing the line with his goats!”

But not everyone shares this opinion. The younger ones defend Father Jules’ initiative, seeing not only a benefit for animal welfare, but also a great attraction for the village. “It’s funny! And it changes things… Nothing ever happens here. Not to mention that it attracts tourists curious to see our free-range goats. We should be encouraging him instead of criticizing him,” thinks Louis, 19, a native of the town.

The mayor, overwhelmed by the situation, has decided to convene a town council to make a decision. “This is an unprecedented situation. We are not prepared for this. We need to consider a solution to ease tensions,” he explains.

In the meantime, the goats continue their escapades and their peaceful life in the village, oblivious to the revolution they have sparked in the hearts of the inhabitants of Désertines.
