At the beginning: A resident of Morne Plaine, victim of 15 lightning strikes in 10 years, is preparing to fight against insurance companies refusing to cover his unique case.
In a turn of events that defies all probabilities, Russell “Lucky” Lightning, a resident of Morne Plaine, has survived his fifteenth lightning strike in ten years. A true human lightning rod, this phenomenon has attracted the attention of the media, scientists, and of course, insurance companies.
“Lucky,” as he is nicknamed in the neighborhood, possesses extraordinary luck. While most people are more likely to win the lottery than to be struck by lightning, Lightning seems to defy the statistics. Unfortunately, his unusual luck has also drawn the attention of insurance companies, all of which have excluded him from coverage due to “excessive risks.”
“I’m not looking to get struck by lightning! But I would like to be able to leave my house without fearing I’ll end up fried,” said our human lightning rod. His claims for damages have been rejected one after the other. The insurance companies argue that the man is an “uninsurable risk,” a pretext that Lightning and his lawyer deem discriminatory and unfounded.
Amidst all this, “Lucky” has managed to keep his deadpan sense of humor. “At least I’m a low-cost birthday candle. Just a storm is enough to light me up. Plus, I generate free electricity,” he laughs, despite his frustrating situation.
In the meantime, Lightning’s lawyer, Mr. Wattson, is preparing a discrimination lawsuit on behalf of his client. “This is a matter of justice. If Russell were a toaster, he would be covered. But because he is a human being, insurers refuse to take him into account. We are going to rectify this,” Wattson said, with electrifying determination.
