The municipal election in Brouay-sur-Odon will go down in the history of France. A major surprise occurred during the counting of votes. To the great astonishment of all, a cauliflower was elected mayor of the town.
Asked about this extraordinary phenomenon, Claude Dupont, a political science professor at the University of Caen, explains: “This is an unprecedented event. It has often been said that anyone can become mayor, but we never thought a vegetable could achieve it!” He adds, “It seems that the population was fed up with the usual politicians and decided to give this cauliflower a chance.”
Some residents of the town are thrilled with this change. This is the case for Mrs. Blanchet, a 72-year-old retiree: “He probably won’t do any worse than the previous ones. Plus, it adds a bit of greenery to our town hall!” However, others are skeptical about this new mayor’s ability to manage the town’s affairs. “How can a cauliflower solve our problems?” wonders Mr. Dubois, a local shopkeeper.
“It is often said that politics is like a cauliflower, with leaves that are not always very clean on the outside, but a white and pure heart on the inside. Perhaps this cauliflower, which doesn’t need words to communicate, will be the best mayor we’ve ever had,” concludes Professor Dupont, not without irony.
