The peaceful village of Saint-Maurice-en-Gourde is in turmoil. The annual stock of gherkins intended for the making of the village’s famous sweet-and-sour gherkins has simply disappeared.
The usual calm and tranquility of Saint-Maurice-en-Gourde, a gem of gherkin cultivation in Burgundy, have been disturbed by a most unusual affair. Early this morning, local farmer Germain Pichon realized that his entire gherkin harvest was gone. An unsolvable mystery, the field was intact, with no signs of theft or pillaging.
“It’s a tragedy, the anxiety is at its peak. How can I produce my famous sweet-and-sour gherkins without the precious raw material?” declared Germain Pichon, visibly very emotional. “I cannot believe that a resident of Saint-Maurice could be the author of this misdeed.
