Tragedy in the Douceline valley: Maurice’s rooster, known for his diligent crows at dawn, has been strangely silent for a week.
It’s a real earthquake that is shaking the quiet community of Ravigny, specifically the Douceline valley. Maurice, a well-known local farmer, lives with a rooster whose crow has always been the dawn melody for the entire valley. But for a week now, the bird has become as silent as a carp, and an entire ecosystem is upset.
“I don’t understand what’s happening to him,” laments Maurice, “he’s always been as healthy as a horse, and he’s never missed a sunrise. It’s very disturbing, especially since I haven’t changed his diet.” This radical change has led the farmer to consult the village veterinarian, without getting any answer to this mysterious silence.
The issue goes far beyond the simple well-being of the animal. Indeed, the crow of Maurice’s rooster has always punctuated the daily life of the villagers. “It’s as if the Big Ben stopped ringing, it’s our landmark, our local madeleine de Proust,” explains Gisèle, the village baker. The phenomenon is already having unexpected repercussions: the rate of lateness at work has exponentially increased and night owls complain about not being able to synchronize their late nights with the rooster’s crow.
“The absence of his crow has created a sound void that nothing comes to fill. It seems like the valley is in mourning,” shares, with a touch of emotion, the Mayor of Ravigny, Gérard Dupuis. The latter has even contemplated organizing a ceremony to “reassure and unite the villagers in this ordeal”. In the meantime, all hope is turned towards the veterinarian and Maurice, who watches over his rooster with touching devotion. “Perhaps it’s simply fatigue, and he will resume the dawn song once rested,” hopes Maurice.
