At the beginning: The association of chickens in Basse-Courville is in turmoil due to the traditional petanque championship that risks disrupting their tranquility this year.
This is not just a simple annoyance, but a genuine crisis. The poultry of Basse-Courville are unhappy. The cause of their anger: the annual petanque championship which, this time, might encroach upon their traditional walking grounds. A situation that is bound to cause a certain uproar within the local chicken association.
“Our dear fowl have always been respected in our charming village. We have no intention of letting these unscrupulous players disturb their peaceful routine,” grumbles Gérard Plumet, president of the Basse-Courville chicken association.
For several days now, the members of the association have been taking various actions to prevent the championship from taking place in the said area, usually occupied by about fifty chickens. Petitions, protests, barricades—anything goes to defend the right to tranquility of the poultry.
An anonymous petanque player, angry about this mobilization, stated: “I don’t understand all this fuss. The chickens can surely stroll elsewhere for a few days, right? What is more important: our sporting traditions or the comfort of a few birds?”
As the championship approaches, the tension in Basse-Courville is palpable. So far, no solution has been found, and it is in an atmosphere of suspicion that the players prepare for their competition, under the worried gaze of the chickens and their defenders. Gérard Plumet warns: “One must not underestimate the anger of a disturbed chicken. We are ready to go all the way to safeguard their rights.”
