Nocturnal exclamations in a grove in Surrey, where a particularly studious owl has set out to decipher the Britannica Encyclopedia. A wild ambition that disrupts the entire forest.
In a quiet wood in Surrey, England, a rather eccentric owl has become the darling of the local wildlife and a source of perplexity for naturalists. Horace, as the locals have nicknamed him, has undertaken the study of the Britannica Encyclopedia, a work barely accessible to many humans, let alone an owl.
“He’s there, night after night, flipping through the pages with the utmost seriousness,” recounts Mrs. Berry, a retiree living near the grove. “He is particularly interested in the section dedicated to astronomy.”
The adventure began when the owl discovered an abandoned copy of the work in an old attic near his habitat. He immediately became passionate about it, claims Mrs. Berry, who has watched the owl’s nocturnal comings and goings with a mix of amusement and astonishment.
“We all thought he was a crazy owl at first,” admits Barry Bough, a neighbor and bird enthusiast. “But now, we are all very proud of Horace. He’s the most cultured owl I know.”
Skeptical biologists were called in to study Horace’s unusual behavior and were astonished by what they found. “This is behavior never before observed in an owl,” states Dr. K. Elson, a renowned biologist. “We don’t know what prompted Horace to develop a passion for reading, but it is clear that he is an exceptional animal.”
Misquote: “Birds have always been fascinating creatures, but this owl has taken flight to a whole new level,” exclaims Dr. Elson. “He sheds new light on what we thought we knew about the cognitive abilities of animals.”
No one yet knows how far the studious owl’s quest for knowledge will go, but one thing is certain: the nightlife in this grove in Surrey will never be the same again.
