Revelations: The Brotherhood of Toasters said to be pulling the strings of the tides

An anonymous witness claims that crumbs serve as beacons and that 6:47 is the ocean’s secret hour.
Our newsroom followed the trail of toast into the back rooms of a laundromat where the missing socks are said to convene.

According to “documents” photocopied onto parchment paper, millions of toasters are allegedly synchronized at daybreak to send half-crispy, half-Hertzian signals to the waves. Each shower of crumbs would fall onto the tiled floors of the world according to a checkerboard plan, sketching an invisible maritime map. The conspiracy theorists of Grille-Pain Libre claim to decipher this supposed code with magnetic salad tongs and a metronome set on a cutting board.

The evidence? A receipt that “hums in Morse code when you crumple it,” a dryer that “vibrates in G-sharp on days of spring tide,” and a row of butter dishes aligned at 17.3 degrees on a checkered tablecloth. “I saw a toaster wink with its slot just as the tide was rising: coincidence? I think not,” said Maître Miette, self-proclaimed custodian of the major crumbs. “Nine baguettes out of ten can tell time; they’re keeping it from us.”

Contacted for comment, experts at the Institute of Tempered Plausibility remind us that a correlation is not a casserole: you can heat it up; it doesn’t turn into truth. The newsroom, for its part, tried to reproduce the phenomenon with two toasters, three jams, and a colander worn as a helmet: result, only a breakfast. In the meantime, we recommend not panicking, buttering in zigzags if it reassures you, and above all keeping your socks in pairs: you never know which secret council they might try to attend.
