Gabberline ARP, New York: Incredible twist at the New York Marathon. Marcia, a giraffe from the Central Park Zoo, created a sensation by winning the race.
This Sunday morning, as thousands of marathon runners were preparing for the major sporting challenge of the year, the New York Marathon, a 2.50 meter intruder made a surprise appearance at the front of the race. Marcia, a 3-year-old giraffe, escaped the watch of her caregivers at the Central Park Zoo and joined the race.
From the start, the giraffe showed astonishing endurance, surpassing runners one by one with a grace typical of her species. Despite the initial surprise, the crowd quickly adopted the new competitor, cheering her on enthusiastically throughout the course.
“I’ve never seen anything so remarkable. She ran with such elegance and rhythm, it was incredible”, declared one of the runners, Samantha Brown.
According to the zoo’s veterinarian, Dr. Lisa Bernstein, “Marcia is in excellent physical condition thanks to her diet and daily exercise at the zoo. We are not really surprised by her performance. After all, a giraffe can run at a maximum speed of 60 km/hour.”
Despite Marcia’s success, the question of the legitimacy of her champion title was raised. However, the organizers of the New York Marathon decided to crown Marcia, stating: “This year has been difficult for everyone. If a giraffe participating in our race can bring joy and wonder, then we are all for it.”
