Funereal Sales: They Slash Prices, the Rest Follows

Last night, the Hyper Moloch hypermarket turned its clearance sales into a full-scale survival exercise.
Between dying neon lights and carnivorous shopping carts, the hunt for bargains mostly delivered good scares.

It was 6 p.m. when the syrupy voice on the loudspeaker screeched: “Final markdown before the final hour.” The doors were “temporarily” locked, officially to “protect labels sensitive to drafts.” Customers, stuck between a wall of mute televisions and a pyramid of wobbly cans, learned the hard way that “shockproof” isn’t a guarantee on a soaped tile floor. The butcher’s section, rebranded “carnivore chic,” didn’t help the mood: mostly cold silence, vacuum-sealed.

First responders, called in “for a slight pricing disturbance,” pushed through aisles renamed “Thrill Zone” with stretchers in cart mode. Unofficial tally: several loyalty bruises, dented baskets, and an ego gravely wounded by trying on one-size-fits-all. The store’s comms department attempted a tight smile: “The safety of our profits comes first—pardon, the safety of our customers, clearance slip of the tongue.” A witness, who swears he only stole seconds of his own life, sums it up: “I saved three euros and a knee.”

At the heart of chaos scented with tropical air freshener, the chain launched a “dry hand” operation at checkout: free sanitizer for every crushed finger, a tax receipt for every morale in crumbs. “It builds loyalty,” whispers an employee, stacked under summer puffer jackets. Non-slip carpeting is promised as of tomorrow, along with a “budget panic management” workshop, upon registration and a waiver longer than the receipt.

Hyper Moloch isn’t blinking: Saturday is “Doors Wide Open Day (when they feel like it),” with cardboard helmet giveaways and self-questioning at 90% off. “Come early, leave late, preferably in the right direction,” advises the poster. And the fake quote that will sell, already plastered on the Morris columns: “With us, nobody leaves empty-handed—there’s always a shiver left in your pockets.”
