Swine Flu Pandemic in the Animal Kingdom: Hippopotamuses Begin Hunger Strike

The hippopotamuses at Safari Land Zoo have decided to protest against health neglect by launching a hunger strike. The animals are showing unexpected solidarity in the face of the swine flu epidemic.

In response to the swine flu epidemic that has been affecting Safari Land Zoo for several weeks, the hippopotamuses have decided to initiate a hunger strike. This unexpected protest was initiated by Hippolyte, the oldest hippopotamus in the zoo, who declared himself “outraged” and “indignant” at the lack of preventive measures taken by the zoo’s management despite the growing threat of this disease.

“We, the hippopotamuses, are robust animals. But we are not immune to swine flu. We are entitled to basic health safety,” Hippolyte reportedly stated during a midnight meeting with the other animals at the zoo. He added, “This negligence cannot continue. We must act, and the only way to draw attention to our situation is to go on a hunger strike.”

The kangaroos, although not directly threatened by swine flu, have decided to stand in solidarity with the hippopotamuses by also boycotting their meals. “It’s a matter of interspecies solidarity. If today it is the hippopotamuses who are threatened, who knows who will be the next victim of management’s neglect?” said Skippy, the leader of the kangaroos.

This situation has sparked an unprecedented crisis at Safari Land Zoo. The zoo management has yet to issue a comment, but the pressure from the animals and the media coverage of this event could very well trigger an awakening. As Hippolyte emphasized, “It is time for things to change. We are not circus animals; we are entitled to respect and health safety.”
