The Impossible Public Service has struck again! We have delved into the twists and turns of the French administration and what we have discovered surpasses understanding.
Administration is supposed to simplify the lives of citizens, but it often seems to entangle itself in a Kafkaesque imbroglio, adding unnecessary complexities and creating enigmatic problems. The most striking example is perhaps the Urban Plantations Service (UPS), which in its quest for greening cities, recently mandated firefighters to water trees.
This decision created an absurd situation where firefighters, who are supposed to focus their energy and resources to fight fires, find themselves watering trees in the middle of the day. “We have no choice,” said Albert Dupont, a completely bewildered fictional firefighter. “We’re told to water the trees, so we water the trees. We weren’t asked to think about the logic of it.”
Moreover, it seems there is no coordination between the different administration services. The Water Service, for example, seems totally oblivious to this UPS initiative and outrageously bills the firefighters for water consumption. Thus, the firefighters find themselves paying an exorbitant water bill to water trees, the purpose of which was never even explained to them.
In short, the public service seems not only confused, but also inefficient. It is time to rethink the entire system to create a more coherent administration that truly responds to the needs of citizens, not a series of absurd rules that seem to have no practical sense. “Preserve water, put out fires, and let the gardeners take care of the trees,” concludes Albert Dupont, our exasperated fictional firefighter.
