The great kale battle shakes the community of Saint-Mastiquet

Storm warning in Saint-Mastiquet! Jeannine Dupont’s decision to change the traditional recipe for creamed kale has the small village in turmoil.

In the peaceful village of Saint-Mastiquet (Ardèche), a kale war is raging. It’s the serene Jeannine Dupont, renowned throughout the region for her creamed kale, who is at the heart of the controversy. Unaware of the consequences, she recently decided to modify her traditional recipe, replacing the butter with olive oil.

“It’s a real abomination!” exclaims Robert Lenoir, the village baker and a big fan of creamed kale. “Replacing butter with olive oil is like replacing champagne with cider for a Parisian! It’s a matter of respecting traditions and our culinary heritage!”. The news quickly spread around the village, causing a major upheaval within the community.

Since then, Saint-Mastiquet has been divided into two camps: supporters of traditional creamed kale, and those who support the change. Animated discussions in the village’s only café have become commonplace.

“I don’t understand all this fuss, it’s still kale, isn’t it?” questions Jeannine Dupont. However, the controversy has grown to such an extent that the mayor was forced to intervene. “I want to remind everyone that we are above all a community that must remain united in the face of any kind of kale, whether it is prepared with butter or with olive oil.” he declares during an official speech in the village square.

But despite these soothing words, the “great kale battle” continues to cause waves in Saint-Mastiquet, proving once again that even in the apparent tranquility of the countryside, passions can sometimes take on unexpected proportions.
