EIGHT ARMS, ZERO DELAYS: AN OCTOPUS TAKES CHARGE OF CENTRAL STATION

Boarding handled by cordial geese, foamy cappuccinos pulled by otters, and ink-written placards: this morning, the station switched to 100% animal mode.
Between beaver-wood footbridges and cat–paw-padded validators, travelers move along, bewildered but smiling.

At dawn, the departure boards began to ripple; suction cups fanned wide, Madame Ventouse — a striped octopus with Olympian calm — reorganized the platforms in eight precise moves. Cats, ties askew and whiskers to the wind, stamp tickets with a single paw, leaving a discreet paw-pad seal. On the forecourt, otters pull perfect espressos, christened “High Tide Lattes,” while geese unfurl arrowed wings to channel the queues, honking impeccable announcements.

On the infrastructure side, beavers whipped up polished-wood footbridges in a flash, with quiet zones carved from bark. Goats in orange safety vests test the benches’ sturdiness with regulation nibbles, while a hedgehog in a three-piece suit, planner peppered with Post-its, hands out anti-static needles to passengers with flyaway hair. Directional signs, subtly calligraphed in ink, point to “Fin Track” and “Shell Exit,” yet everyone seems to find their way.

“We’ve optimized connections using a sardine-school algorithm: if it undulates, it circulates,” explains Madame Ventouse, self-appointed cephalopod flow director, as she synchronizes eight wristwatches. Beside her, a delighted badger with a briefcase confirms: “First time I’ve caught a train on time while staying zen: the otter drew a heart in the foam — I forgot to be in a hurry.”

The ad-hoc management is already announcing expansions: owl librarians for nighttime waiting rooms, squirrel logisticians for a checked-hazelnut baggage service, and carp breathing coaches to calm humans during delays. If the experiment endures, the city may well adopt the motto now emblazoned on the façade: “Less honking, more friction… from suction cups.”
