An extraordinary event has occurred in France that is causing a stir in the international gastronomy community. A hippo discovers a passion and exceptional talent for cheese!
In a remote corner of the Hauts de France region, an incredible event has just taken place. This hippo, who recently left his enclosure at the Lille zoo without permission, surprised everyone by becoming a true connoisseur of all sorts of French cheeses.
In a perfect parody of our wine tastings, the hippo was spotted delicately picking up a loaf of fresh bread in his mouth, then a well-made piece of camembert which he then sniffed and, after a small pause, savored with great pleasure while closing his eyes. “He even seemed to mumble a few comments before bringing the cheese to his mouth,” said Michel Dubois, the local baker, who observed the scene from his shop window.
Since then, this hippo has visited several local farms, where he has shown a particular taste for cow’s milk cheeses, but has also shown a real interest in those produced from goat’s milk. “He seems to prefer cheeses with a strong flavor, like Roquefort for example,” said Bertrand Lapin, a regional cheese producer.
And that’s not all! “He’s not just a big cheese fan, but he also seems to be able to distinguish between different varieties,” said Marie-Claire Mouton, the veterinarian who tried to retrieve the hippo. “He hesitated between a Munster and a Brie, and he chose the Munster. It’s amazing, really!”
The news quickly spread throughout the international gastronomic community, and many people have expressed the desire to see this extraordinary hippo take his place among the greatest tasters. “He could revolutionize our way of consuming and appreciating cheese,” said Gordon Swish, a famous British food critic.
The hippo now seems to have taken up residence in a local cheese shop where he continues to sample French cheeses. A spectacle as fascinating as it is unusual that is not soon to be forgotten.
