Lead: The venerable Hundred-Year-Old Oak, self-proclaimed “King of the Forests”, has officially declared the independence of the Tree Kingdom.
Tired of being the sleeping wood of history, the trees raise their branches. At the end of a rustic proclamation, but oh so full of sap worthy of a Shakespearian speech, the venerable Hundred-Year-Old Oak, self-proclaimed “King of the Forests”, officially declared the independence of the Tree Kingdom. “We are not your chairs or your tables. We have a straight trunk and deep roots. We are the true masters of this world”, he rumbled during his inaugural speech.
In a forest where the whispers of the wind intertwine with the creaking of branches, the proclamation of this vegetable king had the effect of a real storm. United under the bark banner, the trees vowed never again to be felled without a fight. “Our leaves may fall, but not our spirits”, declared the birch, the king’s spokesman.
The first actions of the Tree Kingdom are oriented towards communication with humans. “We will learn to speak human”, declared the fir, Minister of Education. Intensive courses in the translation of bird chirping to sap rumbling have already been set up with the best teachers in the forest.
Despite this vegetable revolution, it must be admitted that many skeptics remain attached to their anthropocentric view of the world. A passer-by, apparently amused by this news, said: “What, the trees now? What’s next, an inter-species alliance between hedgehogs and birds of prey to claim control of the undergrowth?”
Only time will tell if this declaration of independence will bear fruit. In the meantime, be sure to lend an attentive ear to the next forest you cross. Who knows, you might be surprised by what you hear.
