Ahead of the presidential elections, the interior of the Elysée is undergoing a high-end renovation. The budget allocated for the new curtains has particularly surprised, until the executive revealed their “green” nature.
The Elysée is currently in full transformation, and not only politically. Indeed, the famous palace feels the need to offer itself a new look to dignely welcome the next President of the Republic. A large-scale renovation that includes, among other things, the purchase of new curtains. So far, nothing too surprising. Except that the cost of these curtains is enough to make one pale: 10,000 euros.
Faced with the budding scandal, the government responded quickly and shed light on this unusual purchase, stating that these curtains were ‘eco-responsible’. “They are made from cellular microorganisms that use CO2 to grow. They are not only sustainable, but also beneficial for the environment,” explained Pierre Peloton, spokesperson for the Elysée.
He also added, still in an effort to calm the ardor: “Remember that our goal is to make the Elysée a model of ecology. These expensive curtains are actually a boon for the environment! And unlike the old curtains that just kept out the light, these also absorb CO2!” An original way to remind that every action counts in the fight against global warming, even if it can sometimes be a bit expensive.
However, this announcement has caused an outcry in public opinion. A user on Twitter even pointed out: “If we used the 10,000 euros to plant trees, we would have a much greater impact on the environment, and we would even have natural curtains!” A comment that, despite its sarcastic tone, raises an interesting point about the government’s environmental priorities.
